1. What is the Malta Online Directory?

   An online searchable directory of contact information of Maltese residents and businesses via a simple Google-style interface.

2. Don't we already have enough directories?

   Yes, too many in fact for the size of the Maltese islands. The problem is that the information is spread out across different publications, at times making it very difficult to find a contact. The purpose of this website is to aggregate all this information, and make it easy to search.

3. Where do you get the data?

   We get our data from our users! If everyone were to submit his or her contact on this website, then we would have achieved our goal, and everybody would have an instant online source of contacts. If you have not submitted your contact numbers, we kindly ask you to do so here.

4. I'm happy with the "other" popular directory. Why should I switch?

   Fair enough, but keep in mind the number of clicks and the number of fields you have to fill in. With our solution, it's just one field a la Google. And the "other" directory only provides a list of its own subscribers. In our case, we will have subscribers from across all providers. The data being published is in complete control of our users - we just provide the mechanism to make this possible. It's a completely different approach.

5. Seems cool. Anything else?

   Yes. You may also upload a picture of yourself or of your company logo, and include a searchable description field with each entry. This means that anybody who has typed in some keywords that occur in your description will see your entry. E.g. If you sell furniture, and your name is Acme Ltd, the name doesn't reflect quite well your product, so make sure you mention that you sell furniture in your description.

6. How much does it cost?

   It's absolutely FREE.

7. Won't you die of hunger?

   Thanks for your concern, but so far we have survived. We have other projects going on besides this website which pay for our meals. However we might be introducing some advertising later on as we pick up hits, which at least should pay for the hosting. If you would like to send us a donation, we'll be providing a mechanism for this later on.

8. What about my privacy?

   We do not publish anything without your permission. Once you create your entries, you can easily remove them at any time. Most of the fields are optional, which means you are in control what is published and what is not. Check out our privacy policy.

9. Will I get spammed?

   Absolutely not. We only require your e-mail address to send you the password for your account. You can also decide to receive the occasional newsletter, but this is entirely at your discretion. We do not give out the data to third parties (see our privacy policy). We are a serious company and have been in business for a number of years with other websites and projects.

10. I mean, spammed on my telephone...

    Good point, but isn't it the same problem with other directories? Spam over telephone is much less frequent that e-mail spam, for obvious reasons (telephone calls are traceable and cost money).
